Firefox jumps into bed with Microsoft

Postby crustyasp46 » Wed Nov 02, 2011 3:38 am

Firefox came into existence because Microsoft used their signature anti-competitive business practice to butcher Netscape. Google helped Firefox to generate revenue so as to create a competitor to Microsoft's Internet Explorer and bring to the the Web an alternative to what Microsoft offered.

Firefox used Google as its default search engine. The Google-Firefox is due for a renewal, and Firefox may be desperate to get some revenue, going with Microsoft's Bing is to me going agaist the grain of their existence. The open source browser signed a deal with Microsoft recently to also use Bing as a search option.

Just today the open source browser announced another deal. The Mozilla foundation has announced a version of Firefox with Bing as the default search engine.

Google offers Bing as an option to be selected in the very first step when you install Google Chrome, Microsoft has made it almost impossible to set Google as the default search engine.

Firefox is fast losing market share to Google Chrome due to its sluggish performance. There are users who are still using Firefox for 'philosophical' reasons. The deal and release of the 'exclusive' Bing version breaks that trust in Firefox. Microsoft has a kind of Midas Touch, every company or project it touches simply dies, whether it be Novell, Nortel, Nokia or Yahoo!

Firefox has made a fatal mistake, in my humble opinion, becoming a bed mate to Microsoft. :(

Wow, this is a load of bullshit. I've used firefox for almost as long as I can remember, and now... I don't know if I'll continue to use it... simply because I won't search with anything other than google. If I have to manually type in google.com everytime I need to search for something I'm going to switch to chrome... again. >.>'

This sucks a lot indeed!

One thing though, isn't correct if I'm not mistaken:
Microsoft has made it almost impossible to set Google as the default search engine.

It's still possible, in every IE. But the Firefox with Bing in it... I don't know.

Aw, man. I was a Firefox fan for the longest time; I've used it since version 1.1 came out. To be honest, I didn't want to have to make the switch to Chrome, but I had to. Chrome is just faster at University for me, as Firefox takes FOREVER to load. I hardly ever use Firefox anymore, save for online banking, because my settings are saved (not my password, don't bother hacking. Ima chainsaw you if you do :chainsaw: ). Bottom line (and I truly NEVER thought I'd say this): Chrom has surpassed Firefox. Now only if Opera were faster...

Yeah, much as I used to love Firefox, I'll be making a permanent switch, it seems. Maybe IE10 will be better than all of them?

I cannot believe you just said that. That has made my day, and I don't think I'll hear anything that tops it. :hi: :good:

Bahaha, agreed! I'd rather use Netscape than IE. Although, IE9 is a VAST improvement over the others.

Actually, I'd say that Opera has now surpassed Firefox, or rather that Firefox has declined to be at a lower level than Opera. The built-in torrent client is awesome. Speed is suckish, though.
