3DS Already Hacked

Postby te_lanus » Sun Feb 27, 2011 11:00 am

Yesterday, there were reports that none of the flashcarts for the DSi works on the Nintendo 3DS. Today, one flashcart is to be confirmed working and it’s the R4!

The video below which seems to show the R4 chip working on a 3DS, recently went live on a Chinese site named youku.com.

With a lot of piracy issues coming to the forefront of gaming, and the fact the Nintendo 3DS isn’t even released outside Japan, show that all consoles are at risk from the pirates?

Or will Nintendo manage to clamp down and manage to stop this?

I must admit that I am not in favour of hacking roms from new systems. This hurts the developers and in turn will be bad for the gaming industry. Once a system has become so old that the developers can not make money from any sales, then I think it is ok to rip the roms for historical preservation, but not until then.

I hope Nintendo can plug this hole.

Not necessarily pertaining to the 3DS but I have read some articles talking about the security features implemented in DS games. I have found that some ROM dumps have issues in the game as not being able to college experience, travel to certain areas, no money, no health, among other problems.

I think this is a very interesting subject because the developers/companies are actually implementing code to stop people from making ROMs of games. If you search hard enough though or know where to look you can still find clean dumps [!]

Yea, like the (U) ROM of Pokemon White Version. You can't gain EXP in it, but the (E) version of it you can. Makes no sense. :3

I found a (U) working version (I believe they patched it). There is hardly any difference between (U) and (E) which is nice

I've seen on an other forum that they had both Black and White patched to remove the AP measures

I agree that piracy hurts the developers quite a bit regarding modern games/systems, but another silent assassin are used game sales. I am not against used game sales, nor do I believe that they should be stopped, however once a store purchases a game used and sells it again to another customer, that is one less new copy that the developer could have sold. Used games definitely have their place, but big stores can hurt developers in the long run.

I have worked at Gamestop for 3 years now and can say that even when a game has been out for a week, we get used copies and sell those within the hour. Games like Halo Reach, Homefront, all of the Call of Duty's, and basically and new game new sales are hurt by used sales quite a bit. The developers do not see any of this money, and there have been times where I have seen the game disk sold more than 3 times! Developers have recently begun to fight back against this, with games like Medal of Honor, Homefront and a few others severely restricting gameplay unless you enter a code. There are also games like Madden 2011 that disallow gameplay online without the code, forcing you to buy a new copy or a replacement code($5 USD).

I am not saying to stop going to big games stores who focus on used games, rather to think of the developer when deciding to pick up a new or used copy. Your $5 saved is their $50+ lost.

Also if lots of people pirate games, that means there will be fewer collector cartages/disks later on down the road! Imagine a world where everyone could have downloaded their NES games easily back in the late 80's. There would be A LOT fewer NES cartages and coverarts, NOT a world I want to live in!!

I agree, although I do (abviously) love roms, I only release roms onto the site when I feel that they are entirly non commercial. That way the developers can make all the money that they need to in order to keep developing but ultimatly after many years the roms can be made available to other people that would never had purchased anyway.
