Before we start ...
A huge thank you to everyone that takes the time to click through to this page. That simple action shows that you actually care about preserving retro computing and video games for future users. This site, its contents and all of its pages are provided to you free of charge. It has never been my intention to make money from this passion but simply to pass it on to all the younger generations that have missed out on the 8bit and 16bit years. Having said that the bandwidth, hosting and ISP costs are great and growing as the number of users also grow. Your donations are vital to fund the web site and its use.
So what can you (the users) do to help me keep this all running. Apart from donating some money there are many ways in which you can get involved and feel part of the retro computing/gaming community. In doing so you will have played your part in keeping this site and the retro community in general alive. I have listed below some of the best ways to help and what is involved.
Donate a little money & become Unlimited
This is the obvious and most common help that I receive. As I said it takes a lot of money every month to run all of this so all donations however small are greatly appreciated. To show my appreciation I have created the Donations Hall of Fame, a page that lists everyone that has put their hand in their pocket. Please take the time to visit this page for inspiration and also to read some of the comments left by previous users. Users that donate the minimum amount will also have their account upgraded to an Unlimited User. Unlimited users have unlimited download speeds and also access to all areas of the website. For full instructions on what the various accounts mean and how to upgrade to an Unlimited account please visit this thread. For full details on which areas Unlimited Users are allowed access to please visit this thread. To make a donation right now please visit the Donations Page.
Sign the Guest book
It's simple and it means a lot. Many people leave the most uplifting comments in and I know it is old fashioned these days to have a guest book but somehow I cant bring myself to remove it. Take a minute to visit the Guest book and you will see why.
Link to us
Do you have your own web site/blog/forum or the like then link back to this site. This is a great way to help, it brings more visitors and helps promote my rank on Google. I have created a dedicated Link to Us page with all the details, banners, logos and other material that you will need to get started. Anyone that links to this site will have the favour returned and your site will be added to my links page, just remember to let me know via email.
Share us on your social network
One simple way to help our ratings and drive traffic is to tell people about us on your particular social network. At the bottom of every page you will find the SHARE icon which will allow you to tell the social network of your choice about that page you are on. Use this as often as you can and it will help.
Affiliate Sites
Do you own or manage another retro gaming/computing web site. If so why not become an affiliate of this site. You will have your web site displayed on the main page and receive a lot of traffic as a result. All I ask is that you place my return link (see the how to Link to us page) on your root URL or main page and that your web site contains no adult material.
BLOG, Twitter, Facebook?
If you own your own blog or microblog site, why not include my Retro Computer Ramblings Blog in your blogroll list or links. You can also reference any of my blog material for your own use. All I ask is that somewhere on your page you link back to mine. If you are on twitter you can visit my Twitter Page, please help pass the site address on to the other users or watch ROM or EMULATOR based twitter threads and discuss this site within those threads. You can also become a fan on our Facebook Page and stay in touch that way.
Join the Forums
The website forums are the heart of our community and a great place to learn more, ask questions, find already created FAQ's, HOW TO's and READ ME's. I am happy to make good people moderators and allow them to take the forums where ever they feel it should. If you feel that you could add something to the forums please email me and tell me why you should become a moderator.
