I have not got experience of using mame for android but you could try UNZIP'ing the 0.37b roms to see if that works. DO a search on the forums to see if anyone else has had this issue.

It's weird that you are having so much trouble. I've been using Mame4droid for awhile, and it's always worked well. It asks you to browse to the folder with the ROMS, and that's about as hard as it gets. If the game is supported, it will appear in the list of ROMS. Even if the ROM is the wrong version, Mame4droid should still display it and try to launch it. If it's literally showing nothing in the directory, you're doing something seriously wonky.

I've played Final Fight to the end with this emulator on Kindle Fire, so I know it's supported and fully functional. No need to unzip the file at all. I would suggest downloading it from here though to make sure it's legit.
