Hey guys,

As promised, once again an update on the cabinet build. I could upload this from home,
so copied it and doing a quick update from work :oops: :roll: :

Cabinet paintjob done:
Image

Also drawer now done. As you can see, the toppart of the mdf-wood is hard to paint, because it sucks in all the paint. But it doesn't matter that much, since most of the time the drawer will be closed. :)
Image

Came across some dirt stuck between the control panel artwork and the plexiglass...hmmm what now!
Image

Well, I just took half a page of white, clean A4 paper, and slit it between there.. could just push it out before the dirt got in further. Else we would have had to remove all the buttons again to take off the plexiglass :headbang:.

But rest assured, more problems lay ahead! :wtf:

The cabinet, painted, artwork on one side done and the t-molding reveiled again. The removal of the painting-tape was a job on it's own. Had to do a lot of small work with my nails, just to get the nasty paint remains off of the edges.
Image

We started on putting the wires & microswitches in the buttons and soon noticed a flaw in the Ultimarc design combination. We bought the following as a kit for each button:
http://www.ultimarc.com/ultralux.html

It appeared the cable management for the led isn't totally thought of by Ultimarc. Which means, when the microswitch and LED are put inside the button (in either way), the button cannot be fully pressed (at all), because the LED cable is in it's path! :silent: :evil: :headbang: :cry: .

This was quite a major setback, especially since our plan was to almost start up the machine tonight. So we had to do a lot of thinking and my pal came up with the idea (which was truly the -only- possible way): cut off one part of each button:
Image

Now that we could continue it was vastly becoming quite a bunch of cables! :thumbup:
Image

Unfortunately, it also appeared the front-center button microswitch couldn't be placed because of the Ultimarc360 stick. It was in the way.. :P. So we had to cut off a piece of plastic from the joystick that wasn't going to be used in any way :roll:.
Image

Finally it fit. A hint for later on (I found this out yesterday): the usb cable from the player 2 u360 stick now cannot be connected because of the above fit. We will think of something! :ugeek:

Anyhow, now for the fun parts!
Putting the drawer in and placing the keyboard and mouse where they belong:
Image

A quick test with the LED's and the pc inside turned on:
Image

The marquee taped with ''painters-tape'' and light on:

Side view:

Front view, with a replacement monitor in for now:

Ofcourse the end result so-far is in my bad-@$$-quality movie (will make a nice edited one soon):

You guys rock! Thank you for the support so far!!
:thankyou:

Its really starting to come together now for sure. The lights on the keys looks good and gives it a modern feel. The proper monitor will make a big difference.

Nice job so far.

Hi guys!

Did some more work the last few days. HS wasn't booting because of I only had one joystick connected out of two. So wednesday I bought an USB cable with a 45deg. angle in it, hoping it would fit along with the front-center 'select' button. Unfortunately.. that wasn't the case. So I had to remove the microswitch from the center button, making it only light up with the LED's, but not actually do anything when you press it.

Positive side: We got the two u360 sticks and all the other buttons working now! We only need to order one or two extra LED kit's.

Next up was the glass for the monitor and the marquee glass. Well, I drew out the cutlines and carefully fitted the in between two wooden bars with clamps on it. Also made sure there was some decent pressure behind it so it wouldn't start bending when I tried to break the plexiglass. One tip for you guys (I forgot this): make a small incision with a saw on both sides (at the end). Plexiglass will most commonly break incorrectly on the sides if you didn't make a small start for the breakline.

Cut two 60cm long plastic cornerpieces for holding the marquee in place. Had to put a small strip of cardboard underneath the top cornerpiece because that would be screwed in the top panel at an angle (and would unneccesarily bend inwards otherwise). Also I used my favourite tool to sink in the screwheads into the plastic, so when those heads are painted, you almost won't notice they're there.

I don't have photo's yet this time, but it's starting to look great.

Next up:
* Saw two small blocks for holding up the bezel glass
* Making a black cardboard (or other material) bezel for underneath the glass, so you cannot look into the cabinet and everything will be perfectly dark. :good:
* Assigning all the buttons
* Finetuning with black paint

Cheers lads :)

Glad to see you are working out the " We have a problem" details and that it is coming together for you. My hat :hi: is off to you for your perseverance and patience. Kudos to tou and your mate. Still waiting with bated breath of the drum roll of the finished cabinet. :cheers: :good:

Thank you so much crusty!

One thing I totally forgot to mention! My dad (was) an electrician and he came by last week.
He and I had a look at the flat cable that goes from the monitor panel to the monitor itself.
This cable ripped loose a while ago. Fortunately he found a way to open the monitor panel and find out that the clamp which usually holds the cable in place was open. So: we carefully slit the cable back in place, closed the panel and..

Placed the big bad 25" screen in the cabinet! My home rig is uploading a new video as we speak ;).

Wellwell, getting closer to the finished product by the day ;).

The glasswork is a heck of a job, so I'm considering to let a professional company do the glass in front of the monitor. Bezel is now temporary (on top of the monitor.. just some cardboard now).

I'll let the photo's do the talking:

Control panel:

Front with Hyperspin booting:

Front with HS menu on screen:

Total result so far:

Still have to do:
* glasswork
* making a bezel
* tuning pc
* finetuning paint

Cheers mates!!
