Microsoft Surface Beaten By 65 Inch Android Tablet

Postby crustyasp46 » Fri Nov 18, 2011 7:32 pm

Microsoft has been playing with the concept of touch-screen for ages without having developed any product that can be used by ordinary user or which targets a mass market.

The company is now working with Samsung (the leading Android phone maker who are wrongly paying Microsoft Android taxes) to release their 40 inch Surface tablet running on Windows 7 and Surface 2.0 software.

Ironically, within a week of the announcement an Android tablet has beaten Microsoft's surface by creating a bigger -- 65-inch -- tablet running on Android.

Turkey's Ardic has developed a 65 inch tablet running on Android which can give Microsoft's surface run for money.

Ardic says, "We developed what we believe is the world's largest Android touch "tablet". Whether you call it a tablet, smartboard or touch panel, it's the biggest thing running the Android operating system that we know of. The beautiful 65-inch LCD touch screen can be used to do everything that an Android tablet can do: download apps, play games, watch HD movies, browse the web, edit documents, run photo slideshows and more."

How does it work?
The screen is an optical touch screen supporting two-point gestures. The unit itself has no processor, memory or hard disk - just USB and HDMI ports and a power source. Instead it is powered entirely by a 10-inch Android tablet powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 chip with 1GB RAM. The two are connected via a dock with USB (for touch input) and HDMI (audio and video).

It's Not Surface, It's Goes Deep
Microsoft's Surface is capable of registering mutiple touch points and is far more interactive than Ardic's tablet. We are reaching out to Ardic to understand more about the tablet and what market they are targetting.

What we can clearly see is that Microsoft's Surface already has a competitor and Android's reputation and the price point of Ardic tablet will pose quite a competition to Microsoft's tablet ambitions.

The business customer who don't want ultra-complex Surface may choose Ardic's tablet.
