Hi,
Righto....Houston we have a problem
The XT has 512k fitted (piggyback ram), with the AT board fitted this rises to 640k, so far so good.
Now for the life of me I couldnt get Dos to see the extended ram that is in the 2 banks on the Intel board, so fed up I went for a long sulk
So chris (my son) decided to remove the ram chips as there are 2 brands fitted NEC & MT and re socket them one at a time.
Turns out that all but 2 MT chips are kaputt
but all the NEC are working
Dos is reporting a whopping 256k extended memory for the 16 chips fitted and they passed the Intel diagnostic, does that sound right to you?
It would be nice to max out the ram as upto now this has been the only hiccup....well apart from the fitting of a 3.5 drive and the "why cant it format a 1.44 floppy fiasco"....I'll check bios limitations in the future
