This site needs a chat box

I've figured out one thing this forum needs: a Chat Box. It would be so cool to be able to chat with everyone that is on. People could also offer something similar to tech support over this.

No problem, I just noticed a lot of people on one night, thought it would be cool to be able to chat directly with everybody.

The site use to have a live chat thingy on the front page.

All in all it was a waste of space. 90% of the time it was idiotic spam, if I remember correctly.

I'm not against the idea. I'm just stating what I saw last time.

Can a chat box not be moderated in some way? Also could a chat box be set up in some way that when a guest hits the site that maybe a registered member could give them a welcome and encourage them to register? I remember a few years ago that I went to a site that needed registration and I received a welcome in a chat box.

I am in and out of the site frequently and I don't mind greeting, I don't know how fast my greet would be on dial up, but my idea was that if there was any registered user on the site they could send the welcome and encouragement to register. I have been to a few other sites as well lately and in most cases their chat boxes seem to be functioning pretty good. I think if the site is active with members that control over the chat can be achieved, just my thoughts, anyone else?

Just another little note, most times when I hit the site, there is almost always registered users on the site, and a greeting could almost be assure and it could help the community to get more involved.

Nice idea about the greeting thing crusty, my original idea was that like 4 or 5 people were on one night and it would be cool to directly chat rather than posting and waiting. Of course we could put it off limits to unregistered guests and moderate it like anywhere else on the forums, but it would be cool.

I guess that was what I was trying to put across, I just find through my limited experience, that most sites that have chats, are right on the ball with help, suggestions, and advice. The added benefit of chat I think makes a site seem more user friendly, and adds a touch of personality to a site. I also think that an active chat can be controlled by the members of the community, if they are really interested in the community.
