Sort/Search games by design company and genre

Postby plr » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:12 pm

This would simply be the most effective way for forgetful and explorative gamers to find old or new games, as nothing says so much about playability, style, difficulty, budget, and so forth as that little logo on the package. E.g. all 8-bit Jaleco games are worth a look, while Konami was dormant in American quality throughout the 16-bit era; Sega's own productions were always head and shoulders above 3rd party games for their systems, and Rare was the highlight of the N64. Certain companies obviously had their niches, but a less obvious advantage would be separating licensing change-overs, eg Disney's going from Capcom to the generally inferior Virgin. Very professional inclusions would be mergers (where'd Arena go?) and profiles, which along with the above mentioned--stuff that chiefly applies to dead systems--would help us avoid lemons: nobody wants to spend 10 hours digging up an old rpg only to find it was made by Squaresoft and is just some fraction of a FF retread, or buy a new sports game developed from EA models. The genre suggestion requires no expansion other than that it be cross-system. Thanks for reading a long post.

Hello PLR.
Have you though about checking out Moby Games , these guys have a massive database of games where you can do what you have asked for i highly recommend you check them out.

http://www.mobygames.com

Hey Hottrout , any chance we can get Mobys permission to do a Link to there page for all the games in your ROM storage? I know there has been many times im scrolling down a rom page and im thinking " Hey that sounds familiar " so i have to open a new tab log into moby to see if its the game is the one i was thinking of.

It would be a cool idea. Would you or other users be willing to insert the correct URL to the mobygames page to do this? It would mean a lot of work.

I guess i could do at least 5-10 per night even when im busy , should only take a few years :freakout: . im more than happy to start if you would like, i do think it would improve the site.

As long as there is no strict time limit , im up for it. Although i work 50 hours a week and still go to come home and clean up after my lazy wife and kids i always seem to find at least 30 mins per night wasting time on the net. At least i will have something to do before i bust out a some Dos based emulation :P

Can i do DOS first , i like DOS

Thanks every1 for the looks, and luke(soemthing) for the link, but I believe assembling it here would require little solitary effort--just a casual joint effort. Every member can probably list off the top of their head 300 games and at least the lead production company (mine may be slightly less, but then you've seen my idiotic posts; still if anyone else shows interest I'll throw in my scot). Barring interest in that, how about a suggestions board that would of course include lemons?
