Designing my own MMO game

Postby Manually Installed » Sun Feb 07, 2010 2:36 pm

## This post was started as a new topic by Admin.
Mass Effect 2 is a game I haven't tried yet. Maybe I will try it sometime.

Right now I'm designing my own MMO game, but I don't have any help so it's going slowly, but surely. I hope to have it done in about 2-3 years. I would love to get it done sooner, but I know it takes awhile to get everything just right.

What type of game, do spill the beans. Is it server based? Linux? I would be happy to help you out if I could.

Please give us more details.

The game will be a MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online).

It will be a Dungeon & Dragon style game, but it will be real time combat not turn based.
I'm still trying to work on a storyline that is uniquely different from all the other role playing games out. The storyline won't be part of the Forgotten Realms series games of D&D. I'm just basing the style of game after D&D. It will have same races and classes.

It will be Windows compatible first. I will eventually make it Linux compatible when I can. As for Mac, not sure.
If I can eventually make it Mac compatible, someone will have to help me because first I don't have a Mac at my house second I don't like Macs. LOL

More details later

Now that sounds pretty interesting.
What are you coding it in out of curiosity?

Btw, I agree with the comment about Macs. BOO!

I'm using MMO sortware which does a massive amount of things for you. Realm Crafter Pro is the name of the software. The software is programmed in C++. The scripting language in the software is C#. It is still in beta so there are some glitches yet to be fixed, which they are hard at work on. When the next update comes out it will include a completely rewritten server engine which will be better than the one in their standard version. But until that is done they have put the old server engine in so we can at least test our creations while we wait.

I can still use the software to get a lot done even though it is still beta. Graphics are good too. I'm working on making characters, buildings and so on. I have object editors like Blender and Wings3d they are both free software. I'm also working on the battle code to get that set up.

I have to go so more info will come later.

just as a *in case you didn't know* Mac OS is based off of Linux, specifically Debian system. If you can code it for Lunix, you can code it for Mac with a few MINOR tweaks.... not rooting for Mac here personally i hate Apple... too many proprietary parts and components...
