Honestly we could literally have THOUSANDS of different ranks with all the sprites that are available.

Lemme throw this out there real quick. (I was gonna make it a surprise but Id rather see what everyone things and especially what HT thinks or if its possible since he would know)

So, what if in the Users preferences and options there was a section that allowed you to choose what "set" of ranks you wanted to you. That way each user could have a more "customized" experience with what they are, more being members of course. My idea is like a theme. Choose your theme: Zelda, Doom, Mario, 8-Bit, Atari, Final Fantasy 3/6 (<--Best game ever!) and then your rank is changed to that coresponding there with the image being related...

What you guys think?

Update: On my quest to help update the ranks, I went searching through all the forums that im part of and looked to see what they all had for ideas and see if I could find anything interesting. It seems that for post counts, the general thing is the forums are using witty sayings that change and upgrade with a higher post count and sometimes included is a small bar that also will update with more posts. The bar is nothing special eve, just some stars or dots or squares that you get more of with higher post count. My thought on this is that at some point tho we will run out of a higher rank...

Situation: We make a progress bar for 10, 100, 200, 400, 500, 750, and 1000 posts. (Kinda reasonable) In all honesty if the site is around for 5 years im pretty sure there are going to be some of us on here that have WAY more than 1000 posts. Ive seen people on forums with 100,000+ posts. Its ridiculous. So if we were to update again some people may find that they no long have the rank they did because we had to adjust for those who have higher counts.

My point: At some point the post count rank is going to run out and we eventually wont be able to "upgrade" anymore. We will have a very high rank howerever we show it and it will stay that way.

Conclusion: This is not necessarily a bad thing its just something I wanted to throw out there so everyone knew and we could get some thoughts on it.

This is the best thread we have had in ages.

First, the theme idea is good, I will need to do quite a lot of work to phpbb but and happy to if you guys can come up with good sets of ranks for each theme.

I also think we should have more than one rank. One for showing the no of posts as a progressing scale of some kind. One for the user to choose their theme and one normal one for board duties (mod, baned, admin etc)

Great ideas and I like the Doom guy.

Notes:
*I dont know what it is but right now im in the mood for the circle lookin ranks. I had to do this one anyways because I noticed in the last set I put up that it wasnt a circle and it was actually restricted by the height and on the left and thus cut off the edges and looked sketchy. These fix that problem
*Again, just the design is the main thing. Im workin on gettin ahold of more images
*I was trying to get animated .gif images to work in Photoshop but was having trouble. Im still new but getting better. Soon I will know how and ill get some more of them showing up as the sprites
*Also again, the Words have not yet been defined to what sprite. This will also be a little more difficult with the multiple theme idea but I may just choose them and use my own preference for everyone cause I dont see much of a better way. We still have some deciding to do people
*Comments etc. Any ideas that people would prefer that I should attempt to make... Otherwise I like my last design. If we can all agree we can go into the final production stages =]
