I have to admit that was an excellent pitch for the SNES and the advantages of it. However my motive isn’t financial and not too bothered about cost efficiency of exploring SNES, so I’ll explain a little more about why I am on these forums.

My partner lived in the US for several years (We are British) where she garnered her experience of the NES. It wasn’t a mainstream console here in the UK hence my limited knowledge of it, even though, academically speaking I am a software engineer. In fact I didn’t even know what the NES controller looked like until I got my partners one out. I bought her vintage NES gear eBay a couple of years ago to satisfy a nostalgia phase she was going through. My reasons for exploring NES emulators & controllers is for a Christmas present for someone who otherwise has everything.

I want to get her an Emulator with two USB NES controllers with every ROM – all these http://www.theoldcomputer.com/roms/inde ... do/NES/USA. I have someone in India downloading and unzipping them all right now, I’ll write an installer for it to make a complete Plug & Play PC based NES system in-a-box.

I discreetly asked her about SNES last night but she seemed less than enthusiastic and I don’t think she has any experience of it, so it’s a pair of NES controllers I am looking for because of her familiarity with them.

Sounds like a cool solution. Are you downloading all the roms from here? If so remember to at least login for increased speed.

Has anyone actually developed a Windows-ready plug & Play PC based NES (or other console) emulator bundled with Controllers and all ROMS before?

I did try looking but didnt find anything. A few years ago, I did made a bundled BBC Micro emulator with all discs and games into a self extracting Windows installable.

That one seems to work nicer than Jnes so its been selected for development into a Emu & All ROMS + Controllers bundle.

If anyone wants a copy of the completed Windows installable, do let me know

What size would it be? I can organise a special place for it if you can get it to me.

I have not built it yet, I'll revert when the size is known.

EDIT:

The installable for NES and all the ROMS bubndled is just under 80Mb

I'll upload to an FTP server and post the link.

EDIT 2:

it can be downloaded from lawsuite.co.uk but give me an hour to upload it first.

Let me know when you have it so I can remove from my employers server.

EDIT 3:

Uploaded

MOD: Please use the edit button in top right to add new information instead of that whopping quadruple post.

EDIT Hot Trout : Sorry but I had to remove the link, too much potential issues there. Thanks for it.

If you want the Ultimate NES system totally modernized take a look at these two links;

I have actually sincerely thought about trying that very same NES PC. That was the reason I bought my soldering iron and desoldering gun in the first place was for this but right now I dont have the cash. Bummer

The board mention

ed in the article

The article I think uses a netbook motherboard, and there are some amazing small hard drives available that could be installed with it to make a really amazing retro machine. the issue is the cooling, but again good hi output fans are available that will fit. This is on my wish list as well.
