Roms missing files: ROM or CHD

Hi guys,

Please bare with me as I am a bit new to MAME and ROMs.

I am building a MAME machine and I currently have Mame 152. However about 90% of the ROMs I download from the MAME 152 section tell me that I the rom is no good and it is miss ROM or CHD files? eg: 1942

Any Help is SUPER appreciated!

Hi guys,

So based on some research it seems I need to combine these rom's with other roms.

What is the "Base" rom to start with? Do I just download 151 and 152... or do I need to go and get one of the packs from version 032 and update individually all the way up to 152?

Damn that would be a lot of work

Start with 0.144 which is our base version and go through each version after that and update the roms you have by adding the contents of the corresponding zip to the base zip till the game works in the current version. Does that help?

PS - Also just add the account of your Steam to the Steam ID instead of the whole address to have it display properly...

hello. I just built MAME machine and I'm a bit of newbie myself and not quite getting how this works. Based on this thread here's what I did as a test:

Downloaded MAME 0.144
Downloaded galaga.zip from /mame-0.144/g
Dropped it in the rom folder and tried to run the game. I get an error that a couple of .bin files are not found.

Based on my understanding so far, the above should have resulted in me playing Galaga. Can you help me out on what I'm missing? thanks!
