Probably getting more airflow than in a case, but if you had the room underneath you could put another HD holder in place and have max airflow around both. But for the project

i decided to take HT's advice and move one of the hard drives up abit. but in order to do that i had to drill some new holes.

the new holes are outlined in red.

and here is the end result.

Good mod, now the drives wont cook themselves just as quick.

i decide to mount my dos hard drive and the cdrom drive that i use with dos to the board so i wouldn't have to continuously drag out and put away the drives. plus i don't have a another HD that is 10GB or higher to replace my dos HD should it get messed up while transporting it to/from the computer. here are a couple of pictures of the new modifications.

it took a bit of time out in the shop to mod the brackets for this but i think everything turned out good. i did make sure to run grounding wires to the new mounts just to be on the safe side. now i just need to find some small high quality, magneticly shielded speakers to mount on the underside of the board. then i think i wil call this project complete.

because i frequently switch from win2k to MS-DOS 7.1, i decided to make a power switch for the two HDDs that win2k occupies. this way i won't have to keep unplugging and pluging in the drives.

i went a bit crazy with the hot glue gun. but i wanted to make sure everything was insulated and wouldn't come loose.

last night i worked on this mount for my MS-DOS 7.1 hard drives.

the two crossed pieces of metal keep the drives stable so they won't move as i plug and unplug the cables.

as you can see i had to remove the upper CD-ROM bracket to put this mount in. but it makes working with the drives much easier.

last night i relized that the power plugs that are connected to my cd-rom drives were under physical stress. so much so that the primary drive was loosing power once in a while. so in order to fix that issue i hade to relocate the drives to the top of the board without having to move the floppy drives under the board. here are a couple of pictures of how i did it.

in the top of the cd-rom mount is a piece of MDF board thats is screwed in to place from the side. this allowed me to attach the floppy drive mount above the cd-rom drives without having to build a shelf. now every works fine.
