How to make Philips Videopac Emulator Work

Postby jonsaint » Mon Jan 21, 2013 9:43 pm

hello all. ive very recently caught the retro games bug and ive decided to give it a try to bring back the games I used to play as a kid. anyway, how do I make all this stuff work??

I have downloaded pick axe pete, a game I used to play in the very early 80's. in the uk, the game console used to be called the Phillips g7000, but recently I have known it as Magnavox Odyssey-2 .

as I said, I got the game as some 'bin' file, but what do I need to make it work as all this is new to me.

thanks all.

Unfortunately I am unable to help you with this issue as I've never messed with the Odyssey 2 so I have no idea how the emulator works. Hopefully someone on the site will give you the help I'm unable to give you.

Anyone?

In order to use the BIN files which are the rom images of the games you once played. You will need an emulator to emulate the G7000 hardware. You can find the emulator you want by visiting our Emulators Database page below

http://www.theoldcomputer.com/emulators ... -G7000/WIN

I recomend using the O2EM Emulator with the Launcher to make using it easy. Good Luck.

Download the Emulator and Launcher from here
http://www.theoldcomputer.com/emulators ... -G7000/WIN

Unzip O2EM-v118 into a folder on your hard disk. (remember where this is, make it easy to remember)
Unzip o2EM Launcher into another folder on your hard disk. (remember where this is, make it easy to remember)

Download the games you want from here
http://www.theoldcomputer.com/roms/inde ... 00/Various
Save them into the ROMs folder within the Emulator Folder you created. (the O2EM-v118 folder)

Download the G7000 BIOS file from here
http://www.theoldcomputer.com/roms/inde ... ot/Philips
Save it into the BIOS folder within the Emulator folder you created. (the O2EM-v118 folder)

Now load the Launcher program, click on settings and point all the foders to their locations on your hard disk. You should now be up and running. :good:

Was there any executable? All I could find was the source code for the emulator. The package that contained an exe was only a launcher. You would probably need to compile the emulator first, to get an executable.

hi. tried a few times but cant seem to find a folder where I need to insert the rom file, and when I do place it in a file and select it it says not a valid o2 bios, use it anyway?

when I try to start a game it says unable to execute o2em.exe (directory" ")
any idea where im going wrong?

in my folder I got:
docs
rom
shots
src
gamelist
mgvx200.rom (which is the one I assume is for the g7000 as there wasn't one on the list that I could see)
o2emlauncher
o2emlauncher (doc)
o2 launch

Downlload and unzip this exact bios rom into the roms folder and then point the Launcher to it.

That needs to point to the emulator you are using, in this case O2EM-v118 folder.
