Postby Dragon Mech » Fri Dec 28, 2012 3:04 pm

i downloaded the "Classic_NES_Series_-_The_Legend_of_Zelda.7z" file and none of the US version roms work. only the japaness versions work. i also downloaded the "Classic_NES_Series_-_Zelda_II_-_The_Adventure_of_Link.7z" file and none of these roms work either. i am using VisualBoyAvance version 1.0a running on Windows 2000 Professional Version 5.0.2195 with Service Pack 4.

Have you tried VisualBoyAdvanceM? It seems to work better with most games that have errors in the non M version. Hope that helps. :3

i tried to use the emulator that you suggested Kherr, but i got this message when i tried to open the emulator "The procedure entry point Encode Pointer could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.". when i open the roms with VisualBoyAdvance 1.0a, after this screen comes up:
Classic NES Series - The Legend of Zelda (U).jpg
Classic NES Series - The Legend of Zelda (U).jpg (13.76 KiB) Viewed 6179 times

i get this screen with this rom: Classic NES Series - The Legend of Zelda (U).gba
Classic NES Series - The Legend of Zelda (U)1.jpg
Classic NES Series - The Legend of Zelda (U)1.jpg (1.2 KiB) Viewed 6179 times

and i get this screen with this rom: Classic NES Series - Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (U).gba
Classic NES Series - Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (U).png
Classic NES Series - Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (U).png (508 Bytes) Viewed 6179 times

the japnese roms in the 7zip folder "Classic_NES_Series_-_The_Legend_of_Zelda.7z" work just fine, but i can't read japanese. and none of the roms in the 7zip folder "Classic_NES_Series_-_Zelda_II_-_The_Adventure_of_Link.7z" work.

That's very strange. VisualBoyAdvance v1088 works just fine on my computer...

Have you googled that KERNEL32.dll error. Sounds like you could have a virus because that .dll is important to windows. I'd open an administrative command prompt and run "SFC /scannow" (just like that without the quotes) and let it run its course.

Lemme know if that helps you getting VBAm open. :3

i just ran the scan that you suggested, i know that i have Kernel32.dll because i have seen it. but the scan did reveal that i am missing some dll files and asked me to insert a WIN2k Pro disc. of which i have none. i don't have any anti-virus software either. mostly because i'm flat broke and any anti-virus software that i can install on my computer would be EXTREMLY out of date and i would not be able to update it.

you could also be having issues with having an older version of windows, and it could be trying to use a newer version of Kernel32.dll, and pointing to a spot that was simply not there on Win2k. As for a/v there are plenty of free solutions, the only issue would be your OS, might not be supported on all of the brands.

as far as i know, my Kernel32.dll is the same version that has always been on my computer. i haven't tried to replace it with one from a newer version of windows and i have no plans to try it. most a/v software now days requires winXP with SP3 or newer os. but i feel that we have gotten a bit of topic here. could some one try the roms and see if they get the same results as i got?

sorry for the confusion, I wasn't saying you should replace it with a newer version, as that would probably result in system-wide problems. I meant that it might not work at all on your OS because of changes made to that specific file in later versions of windows which the emulator might require. If no one is able to try this out for you with an operating system closer to yours (ME, 2k, 98, xp, etc 32 bit) I will go check this out now and post my results from win 8 64 bit in a small while as I will need to download and install that.

alright, using VisualBoyAdvance-M 1088, I have successfully booted the rom. Classic NES Series - The Legend of Zelda (U).gba resulted in 'game pak error turn the power off' but loading Classic NES Series - The Legend of Zelda (U) [f1][f_5].gba sent me straight to main title screen.

thanks SE7EN, logic would suggest that VisualBoyAdvance-M 1088 would work on win XP and newer systems. but not on anything older than win xp, i think that my computer is getting too old to run some of these newer emulators. but i love my rig and am happy with what it can do. :) i tried the rom that you said worked on VisualBoyAdnvance 1.0a and it showed the classic zelda title screen and i was able to play the game. but the text looked squished and deformed.
