Have you ever had a retro flashback when looking through your old collections of games? I found a copy of the game “Neverhood” and wanted to install it on Windows XP. No luck. Not even with compability settings (windows 95) turned on. I did a quick google-search and found many threads ending with “.. this game will not work in Windows XP”. I do have a valid Windows 98 SE serial, but i don’t have any computer to install it. The sollution (after many hours of trying and failing) was acutally quite easy, and was made possible by Microsoft themselves!

Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (free)

What you need is this :

A computer running Windows XP/Vista or 7
A copy of Windows Virtual PC 2007
A valid copy of Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE
All the retro windows-games you can’t get running in Windows XP or above

RIGHT click the setup program or the application you want to open and go to PROPERTIES, the go to the tab COMPABALITY then where you can see compabality mode under it check the box that says "RUN THIS PROGRAM FOR COMPABLITY MODE FOR:" then click on the arrow thats pointing down on the box under what you just checked and select "WINDOWS 98/ WINDOWS ME" Hope it wil help you.

Almost every operating system today's is a 64 bits system. Software for Windows 95 or 98 is 32 bits DOS based systems. When trying to get those games running on a Windows 7 , Vista 32 or 64 bits system and they don't work.

some windows 95 games won't work on ANY computer with more than 64MB of ram installed. i found this out when i tried to play Sim Town for Win95 a week ago. i was trying to play it on my computer which runs win2k and has 256MB of ram. when ever i would tried to play Sim Town i would get an error message saying that i didn't have enough memory. but when i installed a single 64MB ram module, the game work perfectly. so you may need to get a win95 machine that runs well with only 64MB of ram.
