I agree. DOSBox is quite simply the best thing to use to emulate the older dos versions and associated hardware from that time (Soundblaster 2 or PRO). Checkout the new emulators section or also visit PC section of the roms.

For some reason I just have a really hard time with DOSBox. I can do it and all, but it just feels like I have to do waaaay too much to get to my game where other things like a NES rom I just click browse and double click the rom and bam, ready to play

Guest, this is because it's emulating DOS... not a console. DOS was never easy, but it does bring back memories of getting games to run after installing them... frustrating as it was... :D

Extract or install the game into a folder (remember where this is and if given the choice, make it somewhere simple like C:\gamename

Run DOSBox and navigate to the folder the game is extracted/installed to.

Type in the name of the .exe or .com or possibly .bat for that game.

An excellent solution I've found for using DOSBox is DBox. It works for Mac, Windows, Linux, and anything else Java runs on. When you install for Windows, it also installs DOSBox, so it's a one-stop download. I tend to not want to futz around with the command line in DosBox, so this is what I use.
