bios password reset

Postby crustyasp46 » Mon Jul 26, 2010 2:54 pm

Need some knowledge help: My brother had a Toshiba A100 satellite laptop that he gave to me, apparently these are prone to spontaneously set bios passwords, Toshiba acknowledges the problem and says they will fix the problem until December 2010, but your unit has to be still under warranty, (small print only available when you take it in to get it serviced  ). I found some sites that offer help but it involves tearing the computer apart.
My question is there are boot discs available that are formatted in floppy format, with dos 6 on them, can I use them to get into the computer, and bypass the password request, I really do not want to tear the computer apart, been there, done that, and trying to desolder the battery is a nerve racking affair. The computer is operating XP Home, and I don't know what service pack. thanks for any help. If I can get this up and running it is mine and I can make a grand kid happy.
Note: the unit is 4-5 yrs old.

Thanks HT, brain in reverse, wasn't thinking here as it isn't an ' OLD COMPUTER' . Just hoping I can get into the computer to change the password and download the flash update.
Persistence pays off. I have just received a postage paid box to send the A100 back to Toshiba and they are going to fix it FREEEEEE! I have had to email and phone daily to finally get them to fix it. They just don't want this monkey on their back anymore.

Just an update, have the A100 back and up and running, works like a charm. That is the quickest fix by anyone that I have ever had, considering that it had to be shipped out and then shipped back. So i will mark this post resolved.
