New to DOS gaming...any suggestions??

Postby Gorette66 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 8:28 pm

Hi! I'm new (ain't it obvious?). I was wondering: what are some really good DOS games? As a kid, I could never play computer games cuz the family comp was sooooo slooooowww. -_- Now that I have DOSBox, I'd like to see what I missed out on.

All genres are welcome (esp. RPG).

I once made a top 150 games I every played (DOS) during some lazy school lessons 13 years ago :P.

When I find it, I'll post 'em here :).

Games that pop into my head at random:
* Sam 'n Max :clap:
* Commander Keen
* Stuntcar (aka Stunts)
* The Secret of Monkey Island (all Monkey Island games)
* Loom
* Duke Nukem 1 & 2 (aka the Duke :shifty: )
* Leisure Suite Larry
* Police quest
* Space quest
* Dune 2
* Doom :clap:
* Day of the Tentacle

Bit off, but amazing fun:
* Carmageddon (just for the fun of it)
* Command & Conquer Red Alert
* Planescape Tornment :clap:
* Alpha Centauri
* The Incredible Machine (TIM)
* Castle of Dr. Brain
* Duke Nukem 3D
* Heretic
* Quake

Have fun.. this is what kickstarted gaming on the PC in my opinion! :bow2:

Best to use a frontend on Dosbox. I recommend D-Fend Reloaded. Setting up Dosbox without a frontend, or plain MS-DOS to run your games is a big f**king pain is in the ass! :!: I do not recommend beginners try to set up Dosbox without a frontend, or plain MS-DOS without help from someone who has experience with MS-DOS. It is a lot harder than it looks or what people say.
