I love this site. :D It gets better all the time, that's what is great, its active & stays up to date. There are games & box art & histories & descriptions of systems & its just nice going through everything. :good: If feels like a virtual game library. :typing: I can learn about other systems & its nice. :wink2: The small lifetime fee is well worth it. A site well-loved like this one is definitely needed to archive our gaming history. ;) Great job to everyone involved! :bow2:

Thank you for saying so, we all try our very best around here. (Nice avatar BTW)

If you think it is good at the minute wait until you see what is in store over the next few weeks. We already have the largest ROM collection anywhere and last year we added the largest emulator collection as well. Now we are planning a retro music section, game manuals section, system manuals section and retro magazine section. As always these will become the largest ever seen. (evil laugh)

Greeting all, I'm new here & just wanted to reaffirm what many many others have said in that this is THE best site I have found ... (possibly EVER, personally) .. & great forum too. Seems like a solid community.

I was overjoyed to find a snes emulator a few months back & I sourced a few roms for that here.. but Its only recently I have discovered MAME.. and I feel like Ive been transported back in time 25 years
I honestly NEVER thought I would experience or even see any of those old Arcade games that i used to spend ridiculous amounts of time playing as a kid again.. Im experiencing dangerous amounts of nostalgia at the moment as I relive & rediscover many of my old forgotten friends!

Guess im a complete noob but I never knew anything about emulators until recently, or that there were a faithful few out there who keep these things alive, all I can say is Im eternally grateful for it. My 7 year old son has only ever known PS3 & XBOX in his life, its quite hard to imagine, considering I remember my dad taking me into town when he bought us a brand new Acorn Electron.. Its difficult to comprehend how far things have come.
I've tried explaining to him before what video games used to look like, as he sat there playing Assassins Creed..!
But now with websites such as this I can SHOW him where & how it all started. And now he has learned that just because something is NEWER , doesnt mean its BETTER.. Thats important I think. So thanks for that.

keep up the good work!

Regards,

Helmet

Thanks for the nice introduction, olDirtyHelmet , my kids as you, grew up with the original game consoles, and now think at my age I should grow up,

But, the grandkids, think I am a hero for introducing them to the old consoles and games, (at least the younger ones do now ) unfortunately except for one or two of the older ones, real life is occupying them.

There are great grand kids though coming along to introduce these systems to, so all is good at crustys' retro world.

And just one question , " Are there ever dangerous amounts of nostalgia in regards to retro gaming, if so I must be immune?"

Great to have you here, and enjoying what we have to offer! :good: :goodpost:

cheers for the reply!

Crustys retro world sounds like a good place to be ! firstly im kind of pleased with what youve said; it clarifies what I knew; that the progression of pure gaming technology is something which should be taught & shown to younger generations who are interested, and when they are they are always appreciated & absorbed..?

after all its history & without that what are we?

awesome to hear that there are kids, grandkids & GREAT grandkids being brought up the right way in this chaotic world of ours..

regarding the 'Dangerous' amounts of nostalgia - the danger being that this first (forgotten) love of mine has kind of taken over my life again & my Mrs is not pleased..!!!

thanks for the warm welcome ;)

You can never have too much nostalga. I grew up with computers since the late 1970's and love everything about them. Thats why I love working on this site, spending time with like minded people here in the forums and collecting and using all manner of computers and consoles every day.

If you want to relive your gaming childhood then this is the place to be. You joined at a good time as well because in the coming weeks I plan on several new sections dedicated to games manuals, hardware manuals, retro brochures, retro magazines and other great retro material associated with computers and consoles.

Welcome and enjoy your stay.

If/When I have grandchildren, I can't wait for them to ask me "Grandpa, what is that game?" when I'm sitting there playing DOOM. Oh the falling out of my chair and grasping for air that I'm going to experience, coupled with a possible heart attack or stroke... or both... :freakout:
