Interesting question.

I don't think it will change a lot. Almost nothing really. Only things that might affect the PC gaming industry is things like a wii-mote (motion control) or other kinds of neat console tricks that don't exist on the PC yet.

But I've been around for almost 30 years now, played almost every console since the Nintendo NES, built my first pc when I was 5 and didn't ever stop upgrading. With that I mean, they exist next to eachother just fine. With a new console, there will also be a pc upgrade. With technology evolving, it also evolves parallel in more than one lane. For example; you will see a lot of the same hardware being used in: PC's, consoles, telephones, tablets, etcetera. I think to some extent, those markets each keep eachother alive.

Game on!

I'm with stinow on this one,

everytime a new generation of consoles is around the corner, the end of PC gaming is proclaimed. But so far, didn't happen. And it probably wont happen with the next shift as well, as long as microsoft is not killing the PC as we know it with Win8 - Win9.

Let's face it, whole genres of games can't be played on consoles, like 4x or RTS. It's actually quite the contrary, former console only games are very common on PCs nowadays (Fighting/Brawlers or Jump and Run).

As always, the next gen consoles will be more powerfull than a normal gaming PC, but as always, only for a few months. But both of them have a use and both of them will stay and continue to be sold.

Now with handheld consoles vsIphone Ipad - that's a whole different story nowadays :-)

I think the PC will be influencing more consoles, rumors says that the next Xbox will have upgradeable hardware. So this is the biggest PC influence on a next console generation.
