Pingdom originally shared this post:

April 16 is an important day in personal computer history. On this day in 1977 the West Coast Computer Faire kicked off in San Francisco at the Civic Auditorium & Brooks Hall.

The 1977 edition of the Faire saw the introduction of both the Apple II and the Commodore Pet.

The $1,298 Apple II featured a 6502 processor running at 1 MHz, 4kB RAM, 16kB ROM and color graphics.

Commodore Pet also had the 6502 processor running at 1 MHz and 4kB RAM, but a bit less ROM at 14kB, and a cassette drive. It sold for half the price of the Apple II at $595.

Thank you Crusty for your post.

I would like to hook onto this, although this is not really retro.. but brand-spanking new AND open to the masses ;).

Check it out:

What’s a Raspberry Pi?

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It’s a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the world to learn programming.

I have been following the Raspberry Pi for a while now, and after a few bloopers, they started shipping them last week. That really makes computing available to the masses. :good:
