Modern Scrolling Shoot'em'up

Postby Hot Trout » Mon Jun 07, 2010 1:59 pm

While becoming bored with the usual FPS rewrites for the PC every month I decided to check out some free games on the internet. I found these little classics and after a donation grabbed a download.

If you were a fan of the shoot'em'up of the 80's and early 90's then these will tick all the right boxes.

You can get them here http://www.charliesgames.com/wordpress/

Haha where do you find things like this. I was playing a game which reminded me of your second picture. Its from armour games.

Thanks! I just downloaded "Bullet Candy Perfect" and "Irukandji". I haven't played them yet, but they look to be right up my alley. I was blown away that I could get them both for $2. I know I should have donated more, but I just had $25 bucks that I wanted to squeeze every penny out of. I'm cheap, I know.

Besides those, I also bought Geometry Wars, Braid, Deus Ex, and Deus Ex: Invisible War all on Steam. The Deus Ex games were going at 75% off ($2.50 each) yesterday for the series 10th birthday. I love Steam and their crazy ass sales. I never played the Deus Ex games (I still wasn't too much of a PC gamer when the first came out), though I have been aware of their legendary status. I'm sure I'm in for a treat.

Sorry for going off topic.

*Edit*: HT, so I see you are around the top of the Irukandji scoreboards for many of the ships! :o

What can I tell ya, I take my gamin seriously. Shoot'em'ups were my thing when I was young. Darius, R-Type, Zaxxon, Scramble, Defender, Gradius, Insanity Fight, XOut. The list goes on, I spent (wasted) many years of youth looping these games. I put up the higest ever score in Scramble on the C64.

Enjoyable, very enjoyable.

I just put getting these games at #2 on my list of what I am doing when I get payPal when I turn 18 in January, after donating to TOC. These look awesome, like the old school games of arcades. If like you this kind of game, I'd try Everyday Shooter for PS3/PSP, it is an awesome sound based shoot'em'up.
