Total Newb in need of help

Hello everyone. I'm from America so I apologize if you have trouble with any of the expressions I may use.
I've downloaded the most recent build of nestopia and so far all of the roms Ive opened seem to work great, the only problem I have is that I would like to be able to use a controller instead of a keyboard to play them on my PC. Is there a configuration option that Ive overlooked? Or Is there a emulator that supports this option. The box that I will be using is triple booted with XP, Win 7, and Linux I'm planning to use XP for all the gaming if that helps. I'm not sure what other info might be relevant to answering my question, but if you have questions feel free to ask.

It is possible to use a USB Gaming pad with Nestopia.

1) Plug in gamepad BEFORE opening Nestopia
2) Open Nestopia
3) At the top go to Options --> Input
4) The default input is Pad 1, but you can easily set up any of the 4 available.
5) Pick which Pad option you would like to use and underneath the third white box there will be 5 buttons:
--Set, Set All, Unset, Clear, Default
6) Push the Clear button. This will clear any previous mappings that may have been their and allow you a clean slate to work with.
7) Now, click the Set-All button. It will automatically take you to the top of the box and you have 5 seconds to push the corresponding gamepad button (left on the gamepad)
8) It then moves down the list to "Up", "Right", ect...
9) Finish mapping all the buttons you wish. When you are done wait for 5 sec (noted in the bottom left of Nestopia) and it will save you configurations
10) Press Ok when you are done and enjoy your gamepad! :hi:
