a long time ago a friend destroyed my physical Nintendo 64, he said hed get me another one, so he went to DOHgames and downloaded a 64 emulator with a my rom games, diddy kong racer. it worked then, but that computer was shortly stolen, and this is 3 years later on of all things an older computer an actual real live windows xp. This XP is an artifact of computers because Ican actually delete viruses by restoring my computer to an earlier time. But Compatibility with DOHgame roms are another question. DOHgames went bust and was taken over by theoldcomputer.com and hence thats why Im here. I downloaded 2 different n64 emulators, the project64k.rar and the Project64-r14.7z. neither wants to work with winzip. they worked better before I downloaded winzip. The Roms I downloaded namely diddy kong racer would unzip with winzip and z7, but they would become a .bin file and would not play on the emulator. I cant even get the emulators to work by themselves because they keep saying my pluggins dont work, or Im missing something. Project64-r14.7z has blank pluggins, and wont let me change them. Project64k.rar has a couple of pluggins under settings, but saying config/netplay.dll was not found. I cant find a program that can convert .bin files to win32 like the emulator says it needs. I googled .bin and it says some vlc media player, which has never worked for anything in the 6 years Ive been directed to go there. VLC media player claims to translat and read every file type under the sun, but really does nothing, not even plays movies. I have a windows xp, the sticker says windows vista basic, but the system software says windows xp 2002, 32 bit. Can anybody help me get a .bin translation software that works, and help me get the rom working and the emulator working?

I honestly have no clue what you're talking about. VLC is a media player much like Windows Media Player, however it's only designed for music and video. Some games use .bin files as video sources and that's why VLC is able to open that file type so you can watch video files from .bin sources. I've been using VLC for YEARS and have had literally 0 issues with it.

Anyway, the only suggestion that I have for you is to just try a different emulator. I've never really done any kind of 64 gaming so I really can't give you any solid advice I'm afraid. :(

Also, as far as I know, TOC did NOT take over or buyout DOHgames. We've proudly been TOC since 1999 and single-handedly operated by Hot Trout until 2008. That's when I came on board which was before DOHgames went bust as you said.

HT, did we really obtain DOHgames... whoever they were? From what I can find all you possibly did was buyout the domain sometime after may in 2011...

Dohgames closed. A few months later I noticed that it was gone (my link to it stopped working) and so I contacted the owner to see if he would point his domain to out site. He agreed and I helped him out, in turn I then reregistered the domain and purchased it.

what I am going to suggest you to do it download project64 1.6 AND any roms you want to play from this site. start new, deleting or moving all the old files you have, so as to not have complications. you will also want to grab a free program called 7zip.
Code: Select all
http://www.7-zip.org/
install 7 zip and use it to extract the files you get from this site. install project64 1.6, which should come with some good default plugins. point it to the directory where you extracted your n64 games to (which should be .rom files, not bin/cue files) and update us as to your results. if you still have issues, we can work with you from there.
