ok, i've got two problems and they are on the same page so i figured i could be efficent and put them in to one post. 1st: i noticed that the majority of the macintosh game roms are in .sit format. i tried to decompress "beyond zork.sit" with winzip an 7-zip but neither of them could do it. 2nd: i downloaded "Games_Compilations_8.zip" from the macintosh game page and both winzip and 7-zip said that the file was not a valid file.

i did some hunting around the MAC emulation sites and found Stuffit for windows and the program
HFVexplorer. but when i decompressed the SIT files and loaded them to a MAC HDD file, i found the decompressed files were useless. i couldn't even get the readme files to open. this problem is giving me a headache.

If you are already using stuffit to look at these then you are in the right direction. It is possible that they were corrupt already. I think it was te_lanus that uploaded these files. I am downloading them now to see if I can find anything with them.
te_lanus, could you have a look at this for me?

it looks like i solved my own problem, or problems. first i messed up the installation of MAC OS 7.5 on one of my HDD images for Basilisk II. second i was going about expanding the SIT files in the wrong way.
so i reinstalled MAC OS 7.5 and installed stuffit expander 5.5 on the HDD image. next i enabled the external
file system fuction of basilisk II in the GUI. then i ran basilisk II and accessed the drive that i had stored the SIT files on. it worked, the icons of the SIT files had changed from useless, meaningless data to fully usable
files that worked perfectly. all i had to do was change the destination file during file expantion and save.
also, i stopped useing stuffit expander for windows and switched to the Aladdin expander 5.0 for windows. stuffit required a regestration number and i felt like if i kept useing it it would stop working after a while.
