How about keeping shareware games too?

Hello again, I have the following suggestion:

Can you make a new section with shareware versions of DOS Games?
I like very much this site's ROM collection because they have long names (including the year of release and name of the publisher), and because of how it's organized - only one page per letter so you can easily search for a specific game.

I think it would be a good idea to add a section of PC shareware games. I think that many (or maybe the most) of the users who download an old PC game just want to have a taste of it, playing only one or two levels. Therefore for them it's very ok to play a shareware game.

Adding such an archive can only help in preserving of old games.

For example I just found a few nice shareware shooter games: DemonStar and Galactix -
Code: Select all
http://www.mking.com/

theoldcomputer.com doesn't have those games so they would be a nice addition.

Another idea would be to create a small wiki to maintain a list of retro games, keeping also a list of sites where the games can be downloaded from.

I found the wiki at
Code: Select all
http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Top_games
focused on Amstrad CPC games.
Maybe we can make a wiki for retro-games for all platforms.

An interesting idea. The new version of the website which is due sometime in 2014 should be able to allow members to do these things.

Thanks for your input and suggestions.
