Monetise your site

I found this an incredible site and its administrators mission to preserve every ROM on every console is admirable.

I think the site needs to be monetised because its got to cost a certain dollar value to run. Become a reseller of retro gaming equipment and controllers. Perhaps a shop with odd corny 80's space invaders t-shirts, mugs and other paraphenalia etc.

I think a deal with the maker of X-Arcade should be considered.

I used to have a retro shop that did indeed sell x-arcade and t-shirts etc. It was hard to manage returns etc plus it did not make a lot of money. It also took up a lot of my time which is better spent developing the site and its material.

I do however totally agree that I could use more money. At present this site and its server costs me money every month to run. Donations are not yet enough to pay for everything.

I do it because I love it, some people buy an old car, some collect watches or antiques. Some spend it on holidays. Me, I rent the biggest ass server I can afford every month then stuff it full of retro roms, emulators and material and make it all available on as big a pipe as I can afford. Thats why currently some users are able to download at a whopping 1000 KB/s.

Its my vice :wink2:

Interestingly, the auto install NES you made yesterday is worth more to me  . As you may have noticed I uploaded it and made it Unlimited member only access. This is a reward for those that donate $10 or more and hopefully will entice more people to donate. So in actual fact, what you did will make me more money that t-shirts.

Question is, can you make more of these Mega Rom Packs for me to use?

Yes, anything computer software can be built. The only time-consuming part is downloading all those ROMS!!!

I think the MAME pack might be too big because the ROMS alone fill several DVD'Rs but otherwise, if you have the means to get to me the ROMS and your choice of emulator going with them, I would be happy to package it up into a windows distributable.

yea, thanks for sticking around. Plus, I did mention making a massive single download to HT, you just made it and he upped it. I appreciate that it was an archive installer so WINRAR could extract the roms out of the installer without needing to install. I don't really care for FCEUltra... I prefer RockNESx 2.0 Final over FCE anyday, same goes for NESticle 95. :3

Now, Munk, I am also wondering what software you used to compile the installer, and I'm also wondering if you could make a multiple EMU installer that would put all the name emu's on a compuer in a clean install. Like FCEUltra, SNES9X, the main sega genesis emu, the main GB/GBC, GBA, etc. Also, could it be made to have all the EMUs on it that could be configured to install certain emus per the users' preferences? That would be kickass. :3

I used TegoInstall (http://www.tegosoft.com/Web/Asp/ReqDL/R ... tallWizard) to make the example NES package with ROM, but any Installer will do the job. I made a BBC Micro and Atari 800 mega pack several years ago.

It doesnt take long to make them, but its mind-numbingly boring downloading and unzipping all those ROMS which is why I have not made any others. I just happened to have the BBC Micro (BeebEm) and AtariWinPlus and all the ROMS already and made them up.

In an ideal world, the megapacks would need to have their respoective controllers so they are plug & play.
