Some New Updates

Postby Guest » Sun Aug 22, 2010 11:15 am

Well i was kinda saving these up for a time and then unleash them for Hot Trout to look upon with malice

Things to update list:

1)When a moderator "mods" a post, it notifies the user of the mod
--Reason: This lets the user know what they did so hopefully next time they wont do it again

2)When a moderator makes a "mod" to a users post, it has a special box signifying that its a mod. Instead of me just using the font and color to show I edited it.
This is what the actual mod box could look like:
Mod Message Box.png

This is an example of what it could be edited to say:
Mod Message Eg.png

--Reason: Once again it makes it easier for a user to notice, and others reading to see what was wrong so the same mistake isnt made again. You could add it to the top list of bars and would only be available to the mods (obviously)

3)Something I noticed when I was modding, when merging a topic or moving a topic, the title of the topic needs to change to what its being changed to.
Example: If i moved the topic "topic 1" into the topic "topic 2", the posts from "topic 2" would all have that title and the ones that I just merged would have "topic 1" as the title. So when merging topics (etc) the title should change to whatever its being merged into for all the posts. The same goes for renaming a topic. When i rename, it only changes that one post, but it should update all the posts titles.
--Reason: It provides a cleaner look and more organization. BTW, ask me if you dont understand what I mean. I doesnt look like a very good description lol

4)I just noticed after posting that with posting pictures, one is full size and one is like a click on link. In reality, they are both the exact same size picture, one just has more in it, but for some reason when i placed them in here, they turned out like that. Did I do something wrong?
--Reason: It looks funny

5)Final Comment: A mobile version of the site. "m.theoldcomputer.com"
I know that this is kinda maybe not on the shelf of things to do because theres plenty of other things that could be done before a mobile site becomes a priority, but im just throwing it out there now. And, though I know nothing about php, I would love to help out and if I could, do it for you as a side project. Im majoring in computer science so the more I can dig into new languages the better. The best way to learn a new language is to actually look at the code and so a project working with it would be amazing!
--Reason: I JUST GOT A DROID! Lol, it would be great to be able to fly though on a mobile version. Anyone with jailbroken hardware could come on and download straight to their device. We offer the forums and my (plus everyone elses) knowledge of how to jailbreak and help out. So theres a whole new crowd of people.

That's my little list of possible updates to the already amazing The Old Computer.com :bow2:

Let me know what you guys think, specially you Hot Trout :luigi:

I will take all of these on board and thank you for posting these issues. A mobile version of the site would be great but would also involve a lot of coding changes. It is something I will look at but most likely not until next year. Between now and then we have to upload every roms ever created and every emulator ever coded.
