Computer software or hardware howto's

Postby stinow » Tue Oct 30, 2012 3:32 pm

Might it be a useful addition to the FAQ board, to add a subtopic for where you can place howto's on (for example):

* Specific software installations
* Linux setup guides
* How to upgrade your pc (perhaps a monthly 'game pc of the month' with parts well selected)
.. that's what I do a lot :P
* Cleaning your pc with certain tools

Etcetera?

I've got some input to share :roll: :lol:

I like your idea, stinow, seems like a great plan. I for one would appreciate guides on various aspects of computing. :good:

I thinks this would be a great addition especially if the pc howtos were for older machines like 486, p1,p2 etc as opposed to new hardware. I have a lot of experience to offer there as well.

You could start now inside the retro computing forum and if it gets big enough then we could sub forum it.

It's been a while, but have been thinking about some nice guides.
Will possibly do some youtube movies.

Some idea's, though not very retro:
* Setting up a Virtual machine with Linux using (free) Virtual Box by using GUI and by using command line.
* Creating a local network using virtual machines running Windows XP.
* Setting up an Oracle XE database and connect to it using SQL Developer.
* Using the Linux terminal

Some other thoughts:
* Monthly hardware guide (game pc, htpc and office pc)
* Setting up HyperSpin (basics)

Sounds like a fine idea!
