Linux .DEB for emulators

Postby JAHGoVeg » Fri Apr 13, 2012 6:31 pm

This was suggested by me before. However, at the time I had a lot of things come up which made me unable to complete my duties. However, if HT would be willing to let me pick this up again, I would love to.

Basically, what I want to do is assist in the emulators, specifically, the linux section. Right now, we have the source code up which is theoretically compatible with many versions of linux. However, it is more difficult to set up, requires knowledge of the console, and turns a lot of linux users away.

I would like to upload .DEB's which are basically like .exe's for Debian based systems (One of the major linux systems). If I have the time I would also upload RPM's. Debian and RPM's are the two major systems.

Anyways, Hopefully I can get some feedback from the team about this one. (: I would love to help us be more OS friendly. (: :hi:

Hey sorry I been inactive for awhile.. I think its a great idea also. Dealing with emulators is a bit overwhelming in this day and age with all the new platforms they are made on/ It used to be the big 3, Windows, Mac, Linux but now I got to look for Android, iPhone, and every modern console know to man. Some dont even have websites and don't even follow proper release numbers anymore with all that SVN, Git, and development stuff that makes even harder to follow.

In other words I do appreciate the help :P

I will PM you the details JAH :P

Ok. Thank you. I appreciate it. I would be happy to FTP different DEB packages if HT wants. Or, I could send you the files either way. I have a pretty decent upload rate at school so FTP shouldn't be a problem. ;)

PMJP,

Knowing how important it is that the folder names follow the roms excatly do you want to get the files from JAHGoVeg or do you want me to organise FTP access and then you can check the names etc?

I think he can manage it if you give him the same guidelines you gave me :) It would be easier if he had access also. I also think all the folders need to be renamed and also seperate the emulators which emulate more than one system so we dont have the same emulators in multiple folders :P

Here are my ideas

Code: Select all
Emulator
     /version
          /Windows
          /Apple
          /etc
          /Linux
               /Source
               /DEB_for_Ubuntu
/RPM_for_Fedora (Still not sure if we're doing this one or not)
