My awesome computer halfway broke...

Postby Kherr » Fri Oct 19, 2012 4:56 am

So, as reluctantly as I really DON'T WANT to send this computer into ASUS for repairs, it needs to be done. The LED monitor just works when it wants to and doesn't work if it doesn't feel like working completely at random, so far only on boot up. Long story short, the monitor is somehow working and not working and I'm confused, so ASUS is getting the thing back to fix it and the 4 other things wrong with this laptop. During this time my visiting of here will probably be zero. :(

Anyway, this laptop gets sent off in a few days to the service center and in the meantime it's not getting shut down since the monitor decided it wanted to work.

Oh, and plugging it into an external monitor/television via either VGA out or HDMI out doesn't work. Neither screen will display anything whenever the main screen doesn't work. However the rest of the computer works fine and this is what confuses me the most. I'm thinking maybe the monitor's cable came loose or something, but that wouldn't stop it from displaying on another external monitor or TV... so... my computer earned it's P.H. DEEERRRRRP.

I'm confused just reading this... because it's exactly how stupid this computer is acting. :headbang: :problem:

Your post was quite funny if not also sad. Keep in contact and good luck with the repair.

I have a couple of 486s I could loan you, or how about a C=64 with a modem, not the fastest beasts going, or leading edge, but enjoyable none the less. :D

Seriously, good luck with the repairs, and get back here ASAP :!:

Kherr, take care mate!

This is the time to dig up some old books (those dusty old paper things) from the closet and have a good evening read next to the fireplace or a light  .

Hope to see you soon pal, I (in Dutch) ''thumb'' for your pc to work out ok (or you get a brand new laptop hehe).

UPDATE:

My laptop has reached the repair center in California and is currently being looked at at least (I hope). I don't know the ETA for it to be back in my hands, but when I get some information about it I'll update you guys as soon as possible. The only access I have to the site is from my college's computers, and I'm only at college three times a week. Hope to be back in full stride soon. :problem:

Oh, it's going to be awhile before I'm back up to speed.

I got my computer back in the mail yesterday, and apparently the idiots down at ASUS's repair center in California didn't know what to do with it so they replaced the mobo and the USB ports and re-installed windows and called it fixed. I got it back and it was still broken. Not to mention they shipped it in a plastic bag with bubble wrap around the edges inside of another plastic air-bag thing made out of plastic tubes full of air. Static electricity heaven... inside of a box that was beat to hell and back. Plus the laptop has been returned to me in less of a condition than when I sent it to them in the first place.

Before removing from the box

The static inducing wrapping

Here's a couple of pics from the unboxing because it quite simply was not handled correctly at all. Not very smart for a company that produces electronics.
