The Demise of HP as Computer Maker

Postby crustyasp46 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:18 am

With Hp leaving the computer assembly line business and the making of computers, phones, and tablets, recently having donated their WEBOS to the open source community, to concentrate on software.

Their recent agreement to purchase to purchase UK software firm Autonomy for £7.1bn ($11.7bn) raises questions in my mind.

Will donating WebOS have an impact in the long term on Android or Apple? ( Microsoft I think, is not in the picture, unless you believe in miracles,)

Is the desktop becoming an obsolete commodity?

Most importantly, will my HP desktop, five years of age become a collectors item in twenty or thirty years? Or will it stay as the piece of crap I consider it now?

Just a curious George with too much time on my hands lately. :freakout: :typing:
