Winamp to be discontinued....

Postby SE7EN » Thu Nov 21, 2013 6:08 pm

Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release.
Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years.

Ugh! This has been my number one media player since I have started using computers. It is still what I use 90% of the time when I listen to music. Hopefully they will make a special last version, instead of just fading out.
goodbye Winamp :(

To be honest, I am glad to see it go since its has been so commercialized and bloatware. Foobar2000 is the player for me for this decade. We will miss you Winamp!

PS - For the love of God, somebody respond to my Amiga post

i mostly use XMPlay for my listening needs. it's small and portable. it's also compatible with most Winamp plugins. though one downside is that it dosen't play video files.
you can find it here:
Code: Select all
http://www.un4seen.com/

and you can get skins & plugins here:
Code: Select all
http://support.xmplay.com/

happy listening. :) :mario:

it was. Winamp will continue on, hopefully under better direction than AOL had with it.

both full and lite versions of the last released version of Winamp (5.666) are avalible for download at freewarefiles.com

Full Version
Code: Select all
http://www.freewarefiles.com/Winamp-Full_program_459.html

Lite Version
Code: Select all
http://www.freewarefiles.com/Winamp-Lite_program_30579.html

contrary to what freewarefiles says, this version of winamp is not compatible with windows 2000. believe me, i've tried to install this version on my win2k computer and the installer said " This version of Windows is no longer supported. Winamp 5.666 requires a minimum of Windows XP or newer."
