I've just recently played the Battlefield 3 Open Beta on Xbox 360 and I think the game sucks, pretty hardcore. The controls are crap and you can't change them, and the engine seems like it's straight out of the gamecube or even worse, a clone of Homefront's engine. The graphics are ok, but that isn't the important thing in the game. The only game mode in the beta sucks pretty bad, so I can't completely base an opinion on the multiplayer just yet. The story mode isn't in the beta at all, so again I can't base an opinion on that either.
The biggest thing that I have a problem with is having to log into the EA system aside from being logged into xbox live. I'm also pretty sure that you're going to have to purchase a code to access the multiplayer function of the game if you purchase the game used, and that's a huge issue with me as I usually get my games used to save 5 to 15 dollars from the new price. If you're purchasing new, then it will probably come with a ONE TIME USE code to access the multiplayer. Mind you this is just speculation based on what EA did with Mass Effect 2, the whole code thing. So if you bought the game for use with more than one xbox live account, you're going to need more than one code and more than one EA account. What kind of crap is that?
All in all this game just feels like another cookie cutter shooter game that's coming out on the market to try to copy how well Call of Duty is doing and cash in on the profit, and EA is doing it wrong. If this beta is a reflection of what's to come for the game, then Modern Warfare 3 (if it doesn't do this whole monthly charge thing) is going to stomp BF3 into the ground, pick it up and chew it up, spit it out, and then proceed to stomping it further into the ground. I hope this beta is NOT how the final product is going to be for the franchise's sake.
I give the game 3 out of 5 and that's being generous. >.>'
So no, I do not plan on owning this game unfortunately. T_T
