I also recommend keeping windows around just in case ( assuming you can spare the space). However on the other side of it, if its gone you have no choice but to learn Linux 8-)

I only boot into windows about once a month and that's if i have plenty of free time and i want to play some hardcore games. There are plenty of emulators to keep me entertained . There is only 1 game franchise still running that has not let me down and that's the elder scroll series. As soon as they make a crappy game in the series that's it, no more store purchased computer games for me

I would keep windows o n here, but for one little detail, I really do not want to do another system recovery on it as at the moment about every third boot or so it freezes on boot and this is an ongoing trouble that has happened since I've had it. Taken it in for service four occasions they do a system recovery and send it back, works terrific for a while then the freeze starts again. I don't think it is a virus or malware, as I am pretty careful about where I go and what I do on the net. And I really don't want to buy a new computer for a couple of years as I personally believe that there will be some awesome changes to the way computers will function internally with regards to how they process.

So, my thinking is throw Linux on this beast and see what happens. I handle DOS 3.0 pretty good on my old 486 machine, and I don't think I should be intimidated by Linux. I think there is a saying something like the computer is only as smart as the person sitting at the keyboard. So me and Linux should be able to dumb itout together with ease. :hi:

You have inspired me Crutsy to dig out an old 486 system and reinstall dos, just to play the old games again. I was raised on DOS and Win3. Good times and good memories.

I still have a beta of Linux from back in the day (b 0.91) it is on 16 HD Disks. I downloaded it from Linus Torvalds BBS before the days of the internet really getting going (1992). I also swapped quite a few emails with Linus before he got uber.

Those were the days.

That inspiration works both ways, as the knowledge shared here, with tutorials, and bricking , hacking and just those little tidbits of knowledge thrown in here are an inspiration for me to learn more no matter how frustrating it seems to get at times. Thanks to everyone! :thankyou:
