Nintendo Section Closure Idea

Postby Zfxi » Wed Jun 27, 2018 12:13 am

I understand the nintendo ROM section of the site was closed to to legal issues. The question is would it be possible to reopen it with a homebrew section only? I can't see how homebrew would be considered illegal and Copyrighted if it would be games other people wrote. The only possible issue I can imagine would be Trademark infringement with certain homebrews using trademarked characters. It would be possible to do something similar to romhacking where users would fill out a form with all the info, and a provide a link to the ROM. A mod would then verify it conforms to both legal and quality standards and add it to the site. Please let me know what you think about this idea.

Sincerely,

Zfxi

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately home-brew roms were also outlawed by Nintendo and many other sites dedicated to homebrew versions have also been closed down.

Nintendo is on a war path with everyone, even those that make fan versions of games. I think that long term they will regret their decision to come down so heavily on sites like this one and other fan sites.

Man that sucks, i was just going to suggest my homebrew which does NOT use any Nintendo characters or trademarks. It is an open source rhythm game similar to taiko drum mania, except without using any of their code or character/trademarks which IS perfectly legal. Yea i think they are going to regret screwing over many people especially when they are exploiting copyright laws, but let's not go there. :P

This decision was disappointing for hardcore fans who stuck with Nintendo during that rocky era and extremely worrying as many of the games available on the platforms won’t be preserved.

Yes that news was not good for the preservation of Nintendo games. That said no site will ever attempt to keep any Nintendo material in the future.
