I mean seriously! when was the last time this guy tried a linux distro? 1990? anyways so I made a counter poster.

oh by the way. The Screenshot was from LinuxMint 10 ( http://www.linuxmint.com ). using the Gnome Desktop with a little Compiz. (Nothing fancy like Kherr's KDE desktop that comes with fedora.) hey kherr why don't u show us a screenshot of your fedora.

I don't have fedora installed anymore because it was operating with less efficiency than windows. Hard to acknowledge, but it wasn't performing like windows was... So I re-formatted to windows only and will use gparted when fedora 14 comes out if it will work. Anyway, also, I was using the GNOME version of Fedora 13. :3

He's cute, friendly and very reliable. He's been with our district for many years delivering email and serving up our district and school web pages. He watches over Internet content at all our high schools. His name is Tux and he's going back to school. Learn more about this flightless bird and his impact on SD 73!

All of our Elementary School workstations run Linux for their operating system. Students and teachers now have a large selection of free open-source educational, productivity, and office software ... SD No. 73 has 33 Elementary schools all of which have a Linux Thin Client lab running Linux on the desktop.

Currently all of our Secondary Schools use Linux and FreeBSD for virus, and web content filtering. In 2006 Barriere Secondary was the first high school in our district to have all it's student, teacher, and admin workstations converted to Linux. September 2009 we finished converting our last 3 high schools to Linux Desktops.

Our school board office servers also run Linux and BSD. We use Open Source Software for for email, virus-filters, spam-filters, dns, and web servers. Most of our major information systems are web-based: student data warehouse, workorders, assets, transportation, budgets etc.

Some of the benefits to using Open Source Software:

Diskless clients allows for instant updates to all workstations within a school.
No viruses.
No spyware.
Great security.

No pirating illegal software: p2p.

Also, there is a Linux User Group ( LUG) here in Ontario who receives donated computers and refurbishes them, then installs Ubuntu educational OS, then donates them to at risk students, (students that do not have computers at home) they have recently received 700 computers to fix and donate. their donations to date 3000 +.

I don't mean to sound like an idiot... but... LINUX COMES WITH TRANSMISSION BIT TORRENT CLIENT. WTF? And with WINE you can run 99.9% of what WINDOWS CAN! HELLLLLOOOOO!!! No p2p software... HA!

And if that means pirating illegal software through p2p, WRONG AGAIN! CAN STILL DOWNLOAD ANYTHING ON IT!

I think in the context of the article , " No pirating illegal software: p2p." was meant for on the class systems, not to say it could not be done. And not to say some enterprising whiz kid could not find a way around.

Im still in the debate process with myself about going to linux. I know it will definitely improve my skills in certain aspects but its just hard to let go of my custom windows experience. Especially since I just got ahold of a Windows Ultimate OS disc. (THANK YOU COLLEGE)

i started trying Linux about 2 years ago . At first i still had to boot into windows to do most things as i could not work things out quick enough. Another problem was the wife , she really did not want to change and when we got my new computer MADE me buy window vista even though it went against my better judgement

Now 2 years on using Ubuntu im in LOVE . Even the wife has no problems using it. I only boot back into windows to play games and that's only about once a month as there is more than enough to try on linux .

I can honestly say i will never BUY another windows OS again .
