I wanted to suggest to a new setup to HT for the Emulator Section for approval which include us only keeping the latest version of each emulator for all platforms in one folder....it would help me upload faster and save space on the server.
Example:
[Nintendo]
[NES]
[puNES]
puNES-v0.78-Win32.zip
puNES-v0.78-Win64.zip
puNES-v0.78-Linux32.tar.gz
puNES-v0.78-Linux64.tar.gz
Frontends would be marked by Frontend tag...
Example:
[Arcade]
[MAME]
[Frontend-MAMEUI]
MAMEUI-v0.152-Win64.zip
All multi-system emulators will be in a seperate folder..
Example:
[Multi-System]
[RetroArch]
RetroArch-Wii-v1.0.0.1.zip
RetroArch-20140105-Win32-MegaPack.zip
RetroArch-20140105-Win64-MegaPack.zip
What do you think?

It is a good idea to be able to present the latest of each system quickly to the users browsing the emulators section. That said it is important that we also store all the legacy versions of these emulators and frontends for future reference. With this in mind I think the way to do this is not to change the current folder structure or even to add additional folders with duplicated content. The way to do this going forward is with an Admin area for the emulators that will allow you to assign 'tags' or markers to certain versions of files/folders and thus be able to display a filtered view of the entire database. An examp,e would be to filter for all the latest versions of frontends.
This was always my plan with the new website and it requires a lot of SQL work which is underway as I type. Suffice to say, hold tight for now. During 2014 I will present the curators with access to an admin area where within you will be able to add content, descriptions, and filtering tags for every section.
I like the way you are thinking Alzabo, it is very much in line with my own thoughts on the subject.

oohhhhhh ok. I can't see it being ready until through the year unfortunately. Many months away yet, so I hope you will still keep uploading to the usual folder structure. If you keep to the current structure then we will be ok for the new development.

Thank you. I will continue to work on this as fast as I can, but real life has a habit of getting in the way. That said, with the forums almost complete I will have more time to spend on the admin backend systems.
Thanks for the help, the Emulator section is fast becoming your domain
