Old game I used to play .. PC / DOS

Postby TheOldTimer » Wed Dec 12, 2012 11:44 am

Hi, back In the 90s, I used to play a game called Druglord. It was a financial game, but not your typical .. old Lemonade Stand game. This game was a text game and it had - drug sales, robberies, shootouts with the police and etc. Anyway, the version that is just about everywhere, requires registration and I believe the times of / for registration are long gone past. I read that the registered version come with a printed manual and guide. I know there are plenty of new versions and off-shoots, but I'm looking for druglord v2.01. I believe that version number is correct, but I could be wrong! I want to add it to my collection of old (full version) dos games. Druglord v2.01 could very well be abandonware now .. I don't know?

---> :anyone:

From - trivia - Moby Games.

"The registered version of the game gives you the ability to save and load games. Additionally, it comes with a nicely printed and bound copy of the manual, and a "Strategy Guide" to life on the street, by Owmi Money."

Anyway, trying to track down this game, manual and guide.

Have you tried eBay or Craigslist (provided it was on physical media)?

I don't know why I didn't think of that. I was just on eBay yesterday. I'll check now and see.

Thank You! _ Kherr

Sorry to barge in but I was surfing around, saw this topic, and immediatly registered so I could reply to it.

I picked up the original Drug Lord my freshman year in college and it is probably the main reason I didn't do so well my freshman year. As for 2.0, or is it 2.1?, it is currently available on Fileplanet listed as a demo. I downloaded it from there three or four years ago when it was just listed as "Drug Lord 2". There may be some difference between the two. The one I downloaded came with all the bells and whistles minus any save option which I never saw the need for as the average game only lasted 20 - 30 minutes. It also had the option of posting your scores on line with other players. What it didn't have, obviously, was any kind of packaging or a manual as it was a download.

Hope that helps.

Hi tinyE ...

Well first of all .. Thanks for signing on to help me out. Much appreciated! :)

I played Drug Lord some years ago and for awhile, was pretty much addicted to it. (No pun intended .. lol)

I seen one abandonware site that shows pics of the full version being played, but their download is for the basic version. Someone mentioned that in the comments section. I can understand it being a distraction. (your freshman year). The game was pretty hard to get away from. I know I was playing it - when I should have been doing other stuff. I really don't know how many different versions they were? I could be wrong about the registered version number. When I exit the version I have, it leaves a message on the screen about sending for the registered version. There isn't a save or any bells and whistles.

OK, I'll take a look around fileplanet and see if I can locate it.

Thank You!

It has it's drawbacks! I was in another forum when I mentioned my old NES and somebody responded "Oh yeah, my parents had one of those."

I immediatly ran to the mirror and began counting gray hairs.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go; Matlock is starting!

Matlock

Once you start to argue with 17 year olds that Windows XP is a recent OS, then you know you are getting old. I am just post punched card but pre PC.

I know what you mean PMJP .. I remember my cousin and I talking
about what years we played certain games and just what machines
we played them on. That wasn't that long ago though. Oh and Who
is Matlock? ;)
