Adding more capabilities to ROM: AUSTRALIAN RUGBY LEAGUE

I couldn't find an appropriate forum, so I'm posting here.

Regarding AUSTRALIAN RUGBY LEAGUE (1994) for Sega Genesis: Is there any way to add onto the game's capabilities themselves? I'm not talking about changing game-play, rather stuff like adding more teams, rosters, competitions, etc.

EA's ARL for Sega is pretty "bare bones," and doesn't come with a lot. I'm just interested if someone, somewhere -- who is more techno savvy than I -- has already developed a patch or add-on or whatnot to expand the games capabilities.
