How old should the PC be? AT, 286, 386, 486 or pentium without dosbox

Thanks telanus, appreciate the info. Sometimes when old computers are mentioned that reference is to computers around ten years old. I figured yo meant older as I remember playing Doom with the kids.

When I first received Doom it was from a Scene/Spreader and Cracker friend from Europe. I had never heard of it. It cam bundled with about 20 other HD 1.44 Disks in a Jiffy bag with other cracked releases from our cracking group.

At that time I was running a Intel 486/DX2-66 with 4MB of Ram and a VL-Bus Display card with a whopping 1MB of display ram. That PC was a monster at that stage.

Nice addition le_tanus, really nice.

Here is the Alpha 0.5 for all that wanted, for Pc only, only works in DOSBox but it can be unstable.
This version has more like to the full Doom in some things like the enemies, menu, and some things more, but still are a Alpha, so is not like the full Doom 1.

Doom 1 (Preview Beta)
Please note:
This is a Pre-Beta Release meant for Testing & Media Only.

Two drawbacks:
1st - No sound, (but game will play)
2nd - program looks at the system DATE
if your computer has a system date after 10/31/93 it will not run.
3rd - It includes a zip with Fixdate extract to install dir overwriting those present

for Pc only, only works in DOSBox but it can be unstable. This version is like the full Doom 1, but it have some diferences with some spirites and with some other things but is very similar to the full version of Doom.

Reminds me of the days building Doom levels with the WAD editor.
Was hard to get to know how that stuff worked... (and keep it working).

You just reminded me that I might have some 1.44's with WAD levels on it for DOOM that I made back in the day. I have to go look for them right now ..... awesome.

Nobody ever told me they were into level editing for doom... I did that for the longest time... :3

I absolutely love DOOM, there just isn't any game better than the first or second DOOM games. DOOM 4 is on it's way though... I did catch that off of their main page, they said it was to launch behind RAGE. :3

Can't wait for both. ;3
