would anyone have an idea how the different models of Atari are different in their programs from one to the other? eg: programming from a 130XE to programming for a 800XL to a 600XL, or are they pretty much compatible?

I know the game cartridges are not interchangeable in some cases from model to model.So is it the same with the programs?

On the whole they are compatable but the XL had additional hardware that could be used within the program and if it was then this made the software hardware specific.
