Playstation Emulator for MAC

Friends,

I am interested in reliving my (recent) Playstation glory using the emulator offered on this wonderful website. I am using a MacBook Pro, and downloaded the PCSX emulator and a few ROMs. Unfortunately, I can't get any of them to work and there's no Readme file for the barely computer literate such as myself.

I have two questions:

1. Do I need something called BIOS? When I open PCSC it tells me:

Pcsx wasn't able to locate any Playstation BIOS ROM files. This means that it will run in BIOS simulation mode which is less stable and compatible than using a real Playstation BIOS.
If you have a BIOS available, please copy it to
~/Library/Application Support/Pcsx/Bios/

2. When I try to open ROMs I've downloaded I get an error message saying:

The document “Metal_Gear_Solid_(USA)_(v1.0)_(Disc_2).7z” could not be opened. PCSX cannot open files in the “PCSX Document” format.

What do I need to do in order to play Playstation ROMs on my Mac? Please help! Hot Trout, anybody!!

Thank you,

Kevin

You need to unzip a game before you play (most games will have both .bin and a .cue file).

[Edited by HOT Trout] You can get the bios files from our own bios section, see link below

To unzip a 7z file use 7-zip. See link to download it.

Thank you both for the quick response!

I had to do a little digging, because the programs you sent me to unzip the files were, well, over my head. I did some research however, and ended up downloading Zipeg (http://zipeg.en.softonic.com/mac), which has a nice interface and I think I unzipped the roms, which is good.

Unfortunately, now when I try to open the .bin file for the game using PCSX, it tells me:

The document “CTR - Crash Team Racing (USA).bin” could not be opened. PCSX cannot open files in the “Playstation BIOS Image” format.

I don't think I've resolved the BIOS issue...

Do you think you could take one more minute and help me fill in the missing piece? Is there a file that needs to be copied somewhere (like the ones you so kindly linked to in your reply)?

This is very much appreciated.

Regards,

Kevin

I think you still need to download the BIOS image to the correct folder for your emulator before you can play other games etc.

Friends,

Pardon my silence, I've been busy playing Metal Gear Solid on my Mac!!!!

Thank you so much for your advice. In the end I used a tutorial to put the bios file in the right place and off I went!

My only problem now is: I'm supposed to move onto disc 2 of MGS, but when I load the ISO for disc 2 it just says put disc 1 in. Is it possible to get disc 2 of a game to work of the saved game you're playing?

Well your help has been very much appreciated. I've been telling my friends about theoldcomputer!

Regards,

Kevin

I figured it out!!! When a game asks for disc 2, go to File>Eject CD. This will prompt a menu, with which you can open the .bin file of the next disc. Worked at least for Metal Gear Solid 1 for PS. Haha... only took like 9 months for me to come back to this game and work this out. Cheers!
