Using USB Controllers with Snes and NES Emulators for a Mac

I just bought a nes and snes usb controller to play thru the snes and nes emulators and i am getting no response from the controller can anyone help me figure out how to get these controllers to work ? I'm using a mac g5.

I dont have a working MAC at the moment but my first guess would be to go into the settings of the emulator (everyone is different unless you tell us which one your using as JAHGoVeg mentioned) and then find the "input" section. It may be as simple as you have to select the input to be controller or gamepad. If its not that then you could try (in the same spot) to "map" the keys.
Meaning: There should be a spot that says:
A button =
B button =
Start =
etc...
and you go through all of them and change them to the correct button corresponding to the controller.
