MAME Stuff

Hi guys, my 1st post. Hope this is the right section but I could not find an arcade game emulation forum so...........

I have a home build from scratch arcade machine complete with 2 6 button sticks and a track ball.

My current romset is 0.139, I stuck on the newest MAME however it seems my library is way to out of date as a lot of the games no longer work.

Currently I am just a standard registered user however once i get figured out I will donate so I can download the mame stuff, however,

the last time i tried to download a mame romset update using Crl Mame Pro it took an age and then nothing seemed to work.

Is there a guide anywhere on how to do this correctly (obviously it does work and it was just me doing something wrong) OR are the update files actually full replacements for all roms which are altered so I can just drag and drop.

Many thanks

Mike.

PS this is the 1st retrogaming site I have signed up to since Davesclassics (ages ago before it became the VGN) and Retrogames. so I am very out of the loop

EDIT

Sorry there is an emulator section where this is more appropriate. If a mod could move that would be fab.
Thanks, and once again, sorry.

There you go, moved to the appropriate board. Hope someone who knows more about MAME answers your question because the only copy of MAME I ever used was MAME32.exe from 1998. :3

Kick back, relax, and come back to talk with us. We enjoy new faces around here, lord knows most never talk. :hi:

hi thanks :)

I have figured it out and got myself sorted.

my mame cab is now fully serviced (cleaned buttons, sticks and trackball)
mame fully uptodate with a filter in mamewah to only show working games and hiding clones unless another version is better.

My cab has not been so organised in ages :)

guide here (not written by me)
