Dragon Mech's board mounted PC

Postby Dragon Mech » Thu May 02, 2013 3:17 pm

about a week or so a go i decided to take my computer out of it's case and mount it to a board to make it easier to work on. and because i think a compter looks better if displayed like a piece of art :D. here are some photos that i took over the last three days as i worked on mounting my pc to a board.

i decided to put colums and white marble bases on the board and i trimed the motherboard plate to be a small as possible. underneath the plate and colums is the board i used to mount the computer too.

the next four pictures are of the general layout that i planned to use. the first two are of the top of the board and the last two are of the bottom of the board.

i did a lot of work in my dad's small workshop that i didn't take photos of because there would have been to many of them. the next photo shows the holes that i made in the board to attach the colums and to run the data and power cables for the hard drives and cdrom.

i made the hole in the center with a dremal tool and a spiral bit. it didn't turn out the way i wanted but i works :) .

now it's starting to look good :D

i used normal flat based screws to attach all of the drive mounts and the motherboard plate to the board. underneath the motherboard plate are large diameter rubber washers to raise the plate a little ways off of the board and to allow air to circulate underneath the plate.

here are the hard drives and the cdrom mounted to the bottom of the board

the last three photos are in the next post

This is a great project, better cooling is another benefit. I dont much like the marble feet but that is just personal taste. It looks good so far.

i really like how this prodject turned out. it kinda looks like a giant working tropy. i did run a ground wire to everything to simulate the grounding that every would have as if it were still in a case. i didn't mount the power supply to the board because i wanted to be able to remove it quickly if something when wrong.
if anyone has any questions please feel free ask. see ya later! :D

Also maybe seperate those two hard disks so that some air can flow, it will stop you cooking the hard disk underneath.

Like it all, great project.

thanks everyone, HT, there is a small gap between the hard drives to allow airflow. i can't move the top HD up because the screw heads would touch the circuit board of the drive.
